Sunset Heights Co-Op Reviews

I lived at Sunset Heights for almost 20 years. The last 10 years was a horrible experience and I was forced to stay there because I could not afford market rent and had to wait for a subsidy from other housing. The most outrageous thing I have to say is that there is a core group of women in this place that run the place and have a really screwed up way of treating other human beings. And everyone else just goes along with them. There was a handicapped man named ali who had a wife and young daughter, the powers that be in this place wanted him out and refused upgrades and repairs. Ali finally moved out because he was sick of living in a shack. You should have seen his place ( I did) it was really bad the amount of neglect it took from the co-op for his place to get that way. Terry was a man that had a physical disability and lived in a wheel chair. The powers that be didn't like the way he lived so one of the members of the Board of Directors sent him a series of vicious/nasty letters telling him it would be better if he moved. He felt so rejected and upset that's exactly what he did. He took the letters to his case worker at the ministry and they moved him within days because they felt he was living in a hostile environment. He showed me one of the letters, ( it was pretty bad) There was another man named Ross that has the mentality of a six year old child. He lived at that co-op for what 30 years? something like that. Ross was mentally unfit so he brought his mother to all membership meetings to make his decisisions for him because he was incapable. Unfortunately for Ross his mother became old and was declining. The woman in power decided they didn't like the way Ross lived. Apparently his standards of cleanliness was not high enough. ( the people in this co-op are always gossiping about how each other live) The women in power went after him and everyone else just went along with them. Ross was evicted I see him around Holdom skytrain station sometimes , I think he may be homeless. These woman went after me, ( well I won't go into detail but they sic ed a couple of psychopaths after me. They didn't have a legal leg to stand on to get rid of me so the idea was to make me as uncomfortable as possible) As Ali before me the last 8 years the only time I got repairs is if it would damage the structure if I didn't and I got no upgrades. Most people are getting blinds, closet doors, paint etc when I put my name in for these things I was blatantly ignored. I finally did get paint in 2014, the head of membership must have felt bad because my place looked like a beat up shack./ But even then even though I lived in that particular apartment for 15 years and it had never been professionally painted, when I was given the paint it was made clear that I had to do it myself/ I finally got offered another subsidized unit in another area so I was finally able to get out of there. And the theft in this place. Neighbors stealing from neighbors. People stealing newspapers from their neighbor, people going onto their neighbors patio and stealing their plants and planters. People going onto neighbors patios and stealing their kids bikes. Then there is the deal with all the break ins in the underground parking lot. They try to always blame the homeless people in the area but I am sure a percentage of the thefts are internal. In summary, If you need to live on subsidy and you have a disability, this is not the place for you. If you like a well maintained apartment in a well maintained building, this is not the place for you If you like privacy where all your personal business isn't constantly broadcasted, this is not the place for you. If you like your belongs/ car/ patio to be safe where people respect each others' rights to be secure , this is not the place for you. I'm rating this co-op one star, that's terrible right? All i'm saying is that this place is just jam packed full of not so nice people so BEWARE
